Substance Use and Addictions Course Syllabus

Course Description:

The focus of this course is to educate mental health professionals on the subject of addictions and substance use disorders using current research and evidence-based practices. In addition to learning about the most commonly utilized drugs, the course will also provide knowledge about drug addiction, the effects of drug addiction, and the relationship between drug use and viral infections. The course also offers exposure to several different evidence-based treatment models for drug addiction, including those appropriate for use with adolescents. Finally, the course will provide insight into confidentiality and the unique legal requirements when working with substance use and how to recognize and compartmentalize their own values and biases so that they do not interfere with their clinical work.
