Course Title: Trauma, Attachment, and the Therapeutic Relationship
Course Description: This presentation will focus on the relationship between therapists and clients who have experienced trauma and how we can improve engagement using attachment theory. We will also discuss tips for being a “safer” presence for our clients. The purpose of this course is to bring awareness to the importance of the therapeutic relationship when working with trauma and provide tools to become a safe presence for clients to address trauma.
Course Objectives:
1. Provide basic understanding of trauma through an attachment theory lens
2. Highlight the importance of the therapeutic relationship in trauma work
3. Provide tools for creating safety in the therapeutic relationship
Course Target Audience: Mental Health Professionals (e.g. LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, LEP)

Course Instructor Bio:
Dr. Kost is licensed in the state of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC53039). She received her undergraduate degree from Arizona State University, and her Master’s Degree, Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling, and PsyD, from Alliant International University.
Dr. Kost’s professional experience includes working in residential and outpatient addiction treatment, private practice, as an adjunct professor, in a leadership consulting firm, and in a leading sports management agency. Her dissertation research focused on young heroin addicts and their attachment to their drug of choice.
Dr. Kost specializes in working with those who are struggling with substance use and developmental trauma. Her other areas of interest include trauma, depression, anxiety, and grief and loss.
Course Cost: FREE! No Charge
How CEU Course Completion Certificates Are Awarded:
Participants will sign in and sign out to account for their actual time spent in the course. Only the amount of time attended by participants during the course presentation will be eligible for continuing education credit. Breaks and other non-course activities will not count toward CEU credit.
Within 4-6 weeks following the event, participants will receive a certificate of completion for their continuing education credit. Certificates will be sent via email, unless other arrangements are requested ahead of time.
